Texas Holdem is a game that has evolved into existence from Poker. This page explains briefly, what the game is, and how is it played.

Introduction

It is a card game where each player is administered two cards down, which are also called the “hole” cards. After this, each player is given five cards facing up in the center of the table, which is shared by each player. Now, the motive of every player is to build the foremost five-card hand with the help of hole cards as well as the cards on the board. The one who succeeds first, wins the game. This game is also known as “Cadillac of Poker”.

How to play it:

You need the following things in order to start the game:
1) A deck of 52 cards
2) Two or more players.
3) Chips
4) Dealer

The steps that are followed for playing the game are as described below:

1) The game is played on stakes. So, before the commencement of the game, the player sitting to the left of the dealer places a small amount of stake as blind bet, and the next player to the left of this one, places a slightly higher blind bet. These bets are called blind bets because the players don’t know the cards they’ll get. There is absolutely no way to know if they have any chances to win or loose.

2) Each player is dealt two cards facing down. These cards are called “hole” cards or “pocket” cards.

3) Now, the first move is taken care off by the player to the left of the one who gave bigger blind bet. This player can either call the bet, raise it or fold. In similar way, the process of putting on stakes continues clockwise around the table.

4) Once the betting is done by everyone, three cards are dealt face-up on the table. These cards can be shared by all the players and are called “the flop”.

5) The next move starts from the player sitting left to the dealer, who can use the cards to check or make further bettings.

6) A fourth card is dealt face up on the board, along with the flop, and this is called “the turn card”. The betting continues.

7) The fifth card is dealt at last, face-up, which is called “the river".

8) The players perform their last round of betting, after which they have to show down their cards and the one who makes the best hand of five cards with his “hole cards” and the cards on the center of the table, wins the game.

The game is extremely simple to understand, yet requires certain level of skills and strategies, in order to gain expertise in it. If you are lucky enough, you may get the best hands in the beginning of the game that can drastically improve your chances to win the game. These hands include following combination: Ace-Ace, King-King, Queen-Queen, Ace-King, Jack-Jack, Ace-Queen, King-Queen, King-Queen, Ace-Jack, King-Jack and Ace-Ten. The worst hands that can make it almost impossible for you to win the game, comprise of combination like 2-9, 2-10 etc.

Many important things need to be taken care off while playing this game, which includes the position on which you are seated. Practice is the best way to learn the game, and will help you grow more in both experience, as well as cash!
