Betting strategies for ten cent superfectas to maximize your chances of winning and minimize the amount of your wager.

Superfectas are now in Everyone's Price Range

The superfecta was once a wager that only high rollers could afford. In a superfecta the horse player must pick the top four finishers in order. The old $2.00 minimum ment if you bet four horses to run 1-2-3-4, it would cost $2.00. If you boxed four horses the price went up to $24.00. If you boxed five horses the price went into high roller territory at $120.00. Most North American racing venues have changed to a 10 cent minimum on superfectas. That puts it in everyone's price range. Now a four horse box will cost you only $2.40 and Five horses only $12.00. With payoffs calculated for a $1.00 wager you would win 10% of the payoff for every dime wagered.

Getting the Full 100% Payoff for a Minimum Wager

I have come up with a few betting strategies that I use to get the maximum number of horses for the least amount of money wagered. One is the 2-3-4-5 in which you pick 2 horses to finish 1st, 3 horses to finish 2nd, 4 horses to finish 3rd and 5 horses to finish 4th. This bet will cost $1.60 for a dime wager or $16.00 for the full $1.00 wager. You can add a horse in 3rd or 4th 2-3-4-6 or 2-3-5-5 and the price is still only $24.00. This fits with most everybodies budget. Another strategy is when you have a key horse that you think will win, single him on top 1 - 2,3,4 - 2,3,4 - 2,3,4. This wager is .60 for a dime or $6.00 for the full $1.00. If you want to give yourself better odds you can also play 2,3,4, - 1 - 2,3,4 - 2,3,4 and 2,3,4 - 2,3,4 - 1 - 2,3,4 and 2,3,4 - 2,3,4 - 2,3,4 - 1. This would cost $24.00 and if the horses finish 1-2-3-4 in any order you win. If you're confident in the 1 horse finishing 3rd or better you can leave out the final wager and pay just $18.00 or $12.00 for 2nd or better

I have not been to the races for a few years now but the last time we went the minimum was $1. My wife taught me how to do the 4 horse part wheel for $8 and that is what I would do.

The superfecta is my favorite bet now.I play mostly the southern Ca. tracks because they generate some very large pools. I've seen $90,000 payoffs on weekdays with no big races to draw fans. The Breeders cup had a $1.3 million payoff around 2003. The same methods work for the trifecta too.
