The Heroic Deeds card game - an overview

"Heroic Deeds" is a card based roleplaying conceived and designed by myself. You can read all about it in previous articles I have published by clicking Here and Here.
The game is designed to be played by several players and one storyteller. I am publishing the cards for this game, one at a time here on wikinut and I invite readers to comment and make suggestions at any time.

Using the "Heroic deeds" deck of Heroic Deeds

As previously described, the "Heroic Deeds" deck is used to help the players design their heroes for the game. The cards also help determine guidelines and limitations on what heroes can accomplish. Typically, every hero get to draw four "Heroic Deeds" cards. It is possible to draw more than one of the same card. Players generally get to determine precisely how the cards they have drawn will help define who their hero is and what he can do.

Heroic knowledge

Heroes are naturally assumed to have acquired a wide breadth of knowledge in various branches. Any information that should be common knowledge would certainly be known by the hero as well as much more specific knowledge. Nonetheless, knowledge is power and knowing more can mean a great advantage at times. This can be knowledge acquired from studying for hours in a library, being streetwise, special training as a spy or a purveyor of information. The precise nature of the source of knowledge is up to the player and will help determine precisely what can be known. The player should, at the storytellers discretion either be provided with the knowledge or else let the player invent it and incorporate the invention into the weave of the story.

Choosing between narrow and broad and the effect of multiple cards

As with all "Heroic deeds" card, the player who draws a "Heroic knowledge" card must decide how broad or narrow he wishes the card to be. A broad use might imply a very wide education as well as being well read. In such a case, archaic language might be decipherable, access to knowledge sources such as sages or a library might be available and certain obscure points of history, law or information might also be known. Expending the card would allow access to otherwise unknowable information, reading of ancient runes, or rarefied knowledge that should otherwise be kept secret such as the secret codes of certain spies or unique forms of address recognized in certain circles. A narrower definition might limit the knowledge to animal lore but allow for knowledge of how to gain trust and tame even ferocious beasts for example. Expending a card might allow implementing of this knowledge on rare and even fantastic beasts. A single expenditure definition for this card might allow receiving information directly from a powerful being perhaps via a magical item or some spell. At the storyteller's discretion this could be played out as well with the being being loath to disclose the information sought. Drawing two cards of "Heroic knowledge" would make the hero a master sage, well versed in a wide variety of archaic and common knowledge. Expending a card would allow knowledge of any existing information within reason.
It should be noted that some players consider this card to be one of the most flexible and powerful cards in the "Heroic Deeds" game. This is offset by the fact that proper use of the card is often not as flashy as others and that it requires good roleplaying to be used to maximum effect.
