Review of the 2011 US Open Tennis Mens Tournament which runs from 29th August 2011 until 11th September 2011 at Flushing Meadows, New York.
US Open Tennis - The Time For Murray To Shine ?
The US Open 2011 tournament ( 29th August 2011 to 11th September 2011 at Flushing Meadows , New York ) is now upon us with the announcement of seedings and the First Round Draw – the top ten seeds for the Men’s tournament in 2011 are as follows :
1. Novak Djokovic
2. Rafael Nadal
3. Roger Federer
4. Andy Murray
5. David Ferrer
6. Robin Soderling
7. Gael Monfils
8. Mardy Fish
9. Tomas Berdych
10. Nicolas Almagro
There are no real surprises here – Djokovic despite an injury at the weekend against Murray still remains in impressive form and is clearly the one to beat . Despite some shaky form in the run in to the last Grand Slam tournament of 2011 Nadal and Federer are installed as second and third seeds respectively . With Djokovic and Federer in the same half of the draw and Nadal in indifferent form this could well be the tournament in which Murray will establish himself as a Grand Slam winner.
What do the bookies think ? – Djokovic remains clear favourite to win the tournament at all the traditional bookies and the betting exchanges , typically at 11/8 which frankly is not a good value bet.
Nadal just edges Murray as second favourite typically at 4/1 with Murray at 9/2 with most bookies.
Third seed Federer after another defeat to Jo-Wilfried Tsonga is edged out to fourth favourite in the betting at odds of typically 13/2.
The Tennisscores team find it hard to see past Djokovic or Murray in this tournament , the value bet probably being an each way bet on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga who showed good form at Roland Garros and Wimbledon and is a steady 25/1 with most bookies but available at 35/1 with some smaller bookmaking firms at the time of writing this blog post.
(Odds quoted in this post are correct at the time of writing but are of course subject to the vagaries of betting patterns so always check current odds with bookmakers before placing a bet .)
